Backstage tour before the scenic presentation of 'Southern Promises'

A bite of the Big Apple in Berlin! English Theatre Berlin stages readings of new plays and performance texts that haven been presented or commissioned by Performing Space 122. These introduce Berlin's audience to new work from New York City as well as contribute to examining the changing practice of playwriting in the 21st century. Before the reading of Thomas Bradshaw's play begins, Daniel Brunet, ETB's Producing Artistic Director will give you a tour of Berlin's international performing arts center.

Before the reading starts, Daniel Brunet, Producing Artistic Director of English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center, shows you the theater, its backstage and the beautiful courtyard F40 of Fidicinstraße 40 that the theater shares with Theatre Thikwa. Over the course of this, he will tell you the artistic concept behind Berlin's only international performing arts center with a working language of English and speak more specifically about the collaboration with New York City's renowned Performance Space 122. Presentation: Daniel Brunet.

Tickets for the performance (5 Euro) can be bought via English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center. Admission to the introduction is free.

Schedule:

About the reading:

Southern Promises

When the master of the plantation dies, he wills his slaves to be freed, but his wife doesn’t think that good property should be squandered. Pandemonium ensues. The play is inspired by the true story of Henry Box Brown who escaped to the north by mailing himself in a box.
This reading takes place as part of a partnership with New York City's Performance Space 122.
