Artist talk following 'Stranger'

An interdisciplinary dance performance directed by a light designer, in collaboration with three dancers and two composers. The piece deals with personal encounters whilst meeting a stranger and lies the focus on encounter of two people. After the performance we will talk with Emese Csornai about the creative process of 'Stranger'.

What benefit can it have to meet a stranger? Based on what do we interact to the outside world? What is our best strategy to understand the complexity of another and of ourselves through that? What does a re-interpretation of an edited movie do to our perception in real time and space?

You can now reserve tickets (10-14 €) including free admission to the post-performance discussion directly through Theater Scoutings! (up to 1 day before the performance) Just send an email and the desired number of tickets to reservierung(at)theaterscoutings-berlin.de.

About the venue:

Dock 11

The factory level of Dock 11 in Kastanienallee in Prenzlauer Berg is a rehearsals room, teaching studio and dance stage in one. The stage programme has interdisciplinary supplements such as theatre, performance, literature, music, visual art, film and club art – however the main focal point of every performance is on purely dance elements. Together with its other premises in EDEN***** in Berlin-Pankow, Dock 11 has established itself as an important part of the Berlin dance scene. The unique combination of teaching, rehearsal and stage generates an exciting change of perspectives in both the artists and pupils, as well as among the audience.  (source: visitberlin.de)

About the performance:

Stranger

Interacting with a stranger can highlight parts of our personality or narrative that we are unaware of, so it can become a true mirror of who we are at that point, and in this way provides us a chance to achieve self-accomplishment. Our momentary self, mirrored back whilst facing a stranger is not identical with an edited self-image one is keen to present. The performance assembles several meetings, that at glance look different and unrelated, but throughout the piece the viewers realize that the very same events are taking place- a loop in time is generated. In this performance, light is contextualizing the narrative of music and dance by recreating filmic effects on stage. This appearance of an edited film on stage interferes with the viewers’ perception of real time and space.

About the lighting designer:
