Retrospective Improvisation following 'Love & Loneliness in the 21. century'

Nir de Volff / TOTAL BRUTAL performs a sincere solo and opens a dialog over mid-life crises in Berlin, with dance, text and original music. The solo travels between the deep, serious & the nonsens. What does a midlife crisis mean for a man in оur society? Alisa Tretau invites the audience members transform into the performer and discuss the creative process.

With the help of three simple rules, the audience members transform into the theater makers of the evening. Now, in a constant exchange between the panel and the audience, a retrospective, improvised discussion can take place: what were the rehearsals like, why were certain decisions made? Did the project change society, was a new aesthetic created? Collective, what was seen will be appropriated and speculatively further developed.

You can now reserve tickets (11-14 €) including free admission to the Retrospective Improvisation directly through Theater Scoutings! (up to 1 day before the performance) Just send an email and the desired number of tickets to reservierung(at)theaterscoutings-berlin.de.

About the venue

Dock 11

The factory level of Dock 11 in Kastanienallee in Prenzlauer Berg is a rehearsals room, teaching studio and dance stage in one. The stage programme has interdisciplinary supplements such as theatre, performance, literature, music, visual art, film and club art – however the main focal point of every performance is on purely dance elements. Together with its other premises in EDEN***** in Berlin-Pankow, Dock 11 has established itself as an important part of the Berlin dance scene. The unique combination of teaching, rehearsal and stage generates an exciting change of perspectives in both the artists and pupils, as well as among the audience.  (source: visitberlin.de)

About the dance-performance solo

love & loneliness in the 21. century

A dance-performance solo about a man living in Berlin captured within a midlife crisis. In the spot light, a masculine body performs. By doing so, it encapsulates a plethora of life experiences, memories, lovers, regrets, mourning, and the loss of time. It is a body full of contradictions, disappointments, injuries and scars. The protagonist will use surrealistic comments on his own complex reality, in order to induce heavy moments with ridiculous-meaningful moments. With naked truth, the performer honestly peels layer after layer of his emotional-physical lack of welfare unfolds.Choreographic and textual narratives, displaying the complexity of aging and reflected through the individual(the micro) onto the society we live in (the macro), a society that hasn’t stopped worshipping youth since the times of classical Greece. With authenticity, “love & loneliness in the 21. century” will present a sincere one man show.
