Audience Feedback Circle following 'Unfinished Fridays #121'

A monthly performance event where LAKE resident artists and invited guests present work-in-progress. The evening includes a post-showing discussion where audience and artists engage in dialogue about the work presented.

Unfinished Fridays are centered on the idea that the performance of a work before it is “finished” affords a possibility of transformation that is not available from the rehearsal process alone. The feedback exchange with an audience further supports the ongoing process of artistic creation. These events are a chance for artists to experiment with how their work stands in the frame of a performance, as well as an opportunity for the public to connect with the work unfolding at LAKE Studios.

Lake Studios Berlin

LAKE Studios Berlin is a dance residency, research, and performance center supporting a mix of local and international artists in their creative processes. We offer long and short-term residencies where artists of various styles and diverse standpoints create and exchange in a calm and concentrated atmosphere. We are committed to fostering a sense of community and engage artists in dialogue, reflection, and choreographic research via festivals, forums, classes, workshops and performances. LAKE Studios has existed as an artist-run, community-based dance space since May of 2013. It was built by dancers, for dancers and is dedicated to expanding the possibilities for artists in the fields of dance and performance. It is space that offers unexpected encounters and cross-pollinations.

About the Format

Unfinished Fridays #121

We gather in a circle and give each piece 6 minutes of feedback. The feedback is not supposed to lead to a back-and-forth discussion, but just ‘popcorn-style’ input from the audience to give the artists advice/input on moving forward with the work. If someone in the circle agrees with something a person has said, we ask them to say ‘plus one’. If artists want to continue their discussion with the audience independently, we encourage that and keep the bar open for donation-based drinks and continued conversation until 10:30 pm.

Evening flow: 7:30 pm- 10:30 pm: The bar is open for donation-based drinks for the whole evening. You will see two pieces, followed by a short pause. Another two pieces will be shown, folloed by an even smaller pause. The moderated Feedback Circle invites the audience to engage by sharing feedback – while the bar remains open. Enjoy!
