Artist Talk after 'Hysterology'
Disease? Art form? Protest? Hysteria is treated at its favorite place, the stage, in an international collaboration bringing together performance artists from Germany and choreographers from Hungary. After the show the audience is invited to discuss the topic with them.
After hysteria is dissected onstage by German performance collective bigNOTWENDIGKEIT and choreographers László Fülöp + Anna Biczók, the audience is invited to discuss the matter with them during an artists' talk moderated by Lena Schneider. The opportunity will also be used to present the international cooperation project Szenenwechsel.
Tickets for the performances (13/8 EUR) can be bought via the theater. Admission to the artists' talk is free.

About the Venue:
the Sophiensaele
The Sophiensæle is one of the most important locations for German-speaking independent theatre-production. Artists from Berlin, as well as the national and international theatre-scene are invited to produce and present their works here. The Sophiensæle is home to cultural discourse and a vast mix of artistic genres – from theatre, dance and music, to performance and visual art - which complement each other and enjoy a productive dialogue. Alongside many young artists searching for new theatrical languages and forms of expression, a number of established artists and companies have longstanding partnerships with the Sophiensæle. These include Thorsten Lensing/Theater T1, Gintersdorfer/Klaßen, Christoph Winkler, Laurent Chétouane and Martin Nachbar.

About the show:
Hysterology
We treat hysteria at its favorite place, the stage. Here it is invented as a disease, as an art form, as protest. Here it occurs as a symptom without cause and speaks in signs that mean NOTHING. Here it shows itself as what it is: the great teacher of contradiction. Nothing is certain, except for one thing: the hysteric needs her audience and seeks her viewers. Hysterology is presentation and self examination, lecture performance and melodrama. A web of relations between bodies, knowledge, desires and denial sets the stage for the stars of la Salpêtrière. The famous seizure of the classic Grande Hystérie repeats itself in its disturbing beauty. How can a seizure be rehearsed? How to find a form for something intangible? How to reproduce a phenomenon, which has as many faces as the people trying to understand it?
About the international artists:
László Fülöp, Anna Biczók, bigNOTWENDIGKEIT
In collaboration with the Hungarian choreographers László Fülöp and Anna Biczók, bigNOTWENDIGKEIT investigate the great quick-change artists of Western history – hysteria. The collaboration was born from one idea and one blind date – and was developed in different working phases at Schloss Broellin, in Budapest and in Berlin. bigNOTWENDIGKEIT is a performance group that has worked together for ten years after studying together at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen. László Fülöp + NANASTROVA aka Anna Biczók studied at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy and have since worked together with many different dance companies.
