Artist Talk following 'Man Anam Ke Rostam Bovad Pahlavan'

Through a system of ropes, the performer and a metal puppet form an interdependent triad. The mechanism does function as manipulator of the life between the performer and his double. Ali Moini will talk about this complex work in the Artist-Talk.

  • 2 Ozi Ozar

In this conversation, Iranian artist and performer Ali Moini and dramaturge Ozi Ozar will talk about the process and development of this complex solo performance. They will also discuss questions that are relevant to the tanzpol festival within which the piece is being shown. How do experiences of exile continue in the field of dance and performance? Which inclusions and exclusions become perceptible? Which working conditions and networks are made accessible to Iranian artists in Europe and which are denied? The discussion will be held in English. A translation into German will be provided via headphones.

Tickets: 15 € (regular), 10€ (reduced)

After the performance there will be an Artist Talk (in English).

About the venue

Sophiensæle

The Sophiensæle is one of Berlin’s most important centers for the independent performing arts. Located in a historically protected building complex that was formerly home to the Berlin Craftsmen’s Association (Handwerkervereinshaus), Sophiensæle presents a broad, ever-changing spectrum of performing arts. Founded in 1996 as a theater by artists for artists, they consider it their core task to promote artistic growth and development. As such, the programming features a mixture of both established and emerging talents, as well as local and international perspectives. The stages feature artists who work outside the boundaries of genre, exploring new possibilities within and beyond their disciplines and developing innovative forms that bridge the worlds of dance, performance, theater, visual arts, discourse, text, hospitality, and immersive gatherings.

About the piece

An Anam Ke Rostam Bovad Pahlavan

In this work, Ali Moini and his life-size puppet interact through a block and tackle. Through karabiners and pulleys connected by a complex system of ropes, the performer and the metal puppet form an interdependent triad. Thus, each dance movement finds its echo in a dismantled and chaotic version in the movements of the metal, initially fleshless puppet. Here the mechanism does not just function as a translator but also as the manipulator of the life between the performer and his double. Even the meaning of the respective roles fade. The efficiency of the development of the actors on stage can vary to the extent that their identities and classifications – between being object and subject, actor and observer, follower and leader and between authenticity and unreliability – get lost.
