GUT REACTION is an English expression that indicates a reaction to a situation derived by a person's instinct and experience. How did Giulia Mandelli and Marco Rival create their performance? How do they describe the unique style that characterizes them?

About the venue

theaterforum kreuzberg

Im ehemaligen Ballsaal „Köpenicker Hof“ befindet sich das theaterforum kreuzberg. Neben den hauseigenen Inszenierungen finden Gastspiele von Theater- und Tanzensembles aus Berlin und dem In- und Ausland statt. Unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Anemone Poland hat das theaterforum kreuzberg in den letzten Jahren Autoren der klassischen Moderne inszeniert, häufig als Deutsche oder Berliner Erstaufführung. So u.a. Stücke von Jean Tardieu, Michel de Ghelderode, Eugène Ionesco, Diderot/Enzensberger, Roger Vitrac, Georges Schehadé und als Uraufführung ein Drama des Malers Max Beckmann. Mit dieser Auswahl an weitgehend unbekannten Meisterwerken hat sich das tfk eine kleine Marktnische in der Berliner Theaterlandschaft erspielt.

GUT Reaction

GUT Reaction present a new form of performance divided into two acts.

First act: PLASTIC (revised) 
Between reality and absurdity, madness and plastic faces are coloring the scene. Our world is no longer meant to be understood. We're surrounded by grotesque and surreal episodes that are far from being perceived as reality but that leave doubt open. Are you sure to know what's fake and what's real in your life? 

Second act: Viri Sancti Libidinum 
There was one holy man, with a paternal smile, visceral power, forgiving himself in the name of morality. There is a holy man that takes little hands, he reclaims the good and the trust, doubt is not allowed. Always there will be the saint man, surrounded by ashamed voices, white guiltyness in silence. 

The holy man is driving a Mercedes and he is coming. It is not his fault, in the name of the good, it is not your fault, it is not my fault. This is NOT my fault! You have to do it, in the name of the good. It's pure. The holy monster. 

A series of questionable performative windows that reflect the actual weaknesses of those who act upon defenseless beings. How far are we willing to go into forgiveness? (BASED ON A TRUE STORY) 

About the artists

Giulia Mandelli + Marco Rivagli

MARCO RIVAGLI e GIULIA MANDELLI, both established professionals in their own artistic field, after many previous collaborations, give birth to the Gut Reaction at the beginning of 2015. The unique style that characterizes them, leads the audience on a journey into the most improbable imaginaries through an investigation where theatre, body movement, music and rhythm collide.  Their work is SITE SPECIFIC: dramaturgy, choreography and music are composed specifically for the location. The duo, that has already performed many shows all over Europe, offers piéces for a very heterogeneous audience. At the moment, after the release of their video ALCAEUS (Italy, 2015), and 2 other productions (4MOODS & Whole Blinded) they are presenting their most recent creation: #top_sKreen, soon to be on tour from Berlin to Sicily in May 2017.
