Audience Talk following 'The Mirror' (in English and German)
The Mirror explores the concept of entertainment through the language of contemporary circus. The following audience talk will give an opportunity to share perceptions and further discuss the themes of the performance.
What do we want to show the world and is it something that others want to see? What does authenticity mean, especially in the age of ubiquitous screens and permanent self-presentation? The performers of award-winning Australian circus company Gravity & Other Myths use the language of contemporary circus to question the concept of entertainment. The following Audience Talk will give the audience an opportunity to further discuss the themes of the performance as well as provide them with rare insights into the world of the artists on stage. Joining the Theaterscoutings talk will be three of the performers as well as the Chamäleon’s dramaturg Geordie Brookmann. The Talk will be live translated in German and English.

Since its founding in 2004, the Chamäleon has been a showcase for current artistic positions in the international circus scene and over the years has evolved into an important production venue and creative partner. About the piece
The Mirror
They spin through the air, build staggering human towers and create nuanced, flowing choreographies: Award-winning company Gravity & Other Myths (GOM) is back at the Chamäleon with their latest work. The Mirror is the company’s most physically and conceptually ambitious challenge to date. Together with director Darcy Grant, the artists explore the concept of entertainment through the language of contemporary circus and question what the modern human finds entertaining. The high-level dance and acrobatics in the piece are offset by an innovative contemporary design, using an LED wall, cameras and selfie sticks. Highly expressive, playful and accompanied by the outstanding electronic compositions and pop mash-ups of musician Ekrem Eli Phoenix, the artists of GOM set out on a search for the “true” self.
