About the Venue:
English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center
English Theatre Berlin | International Performing Arts Center is the German capital’s only producing and presenting organization in the Hauptstadt expressly dedicated to English, the 21st century lingua franca, as the working language. Our year-round programming comprises the Producing Series – Made in Berlin, the Presenting Series, as well as our Performing Series and Pedagogy Series. We are a proud member of Berlin’s freie Szene, the independent performing arts community, and are currently developing platforms to share our work within Germany and abroad. We consciously use theater and performance as living, discursive forms to bring artists and audiences into conversation with each other about our shared city and the greater world we live in.
About the Festival:
Expat Expo: A Showcase of Wahlberliner
Held from June 1-7, the Expo features a curated selection of performances by multiple artists in every genre imaginable. Each evening features a curated selection of performances: on the 1st of June you are welcomed to enjoy successively NIYAR - A PAPER TALE, a puppet theater show made all out of paper by Maayan Iungman, UNDER THE GUN, an extravaganza by Theater Group Berlin featuring Rich Bray, and I DON’T HAVE A LINE, by so sick communications, a multifaceted performance based on the idea that dancers are constantly heckled by their choreographers and teachers and inevitably by themselves before the audience even has the chance to pass judgment.
About the Festival's Creator and Curator:
Daniel Brunet was born in Syracuse, New York in 1979 and studied theater and film at Boston College. He moved to Berlin in 2001 and began a career as a freelance theater maker with the support of a Fulbright grant. Brunet was the Associate Director/Associate Producer of German Theater Abroad from 2005 to 2008, a transatlantic theater company based in New York and Berlin. After spending seven years commuting between Brooklyn and Berlin, Brunet became Producing Artistic Director of English Theatre Berlin in 2012. His directorial work has been seen throughout Germany and the United States at venues including Forum Freies Theater, Düsseldorf, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin and Performance Space 122, New York.
