About the venue
Kunstquartier Bethanien
The central deaconess institute ‚Bethanien‘ was constructed during the years 1845-47, commissioned by the pious King Friedrich Wilhelm IV who was known as the ‚romantic of the Prussian throne‘. In 1843 he reintroduced the Society of Our Lady (Order of Swan) that his forefather, Kurfürst Friedrich II of Brandenburg had founded four hundred years previously. One of his tasks was to construct an institute for educating nurses and carers „which, as a model for other similar institutions, would be affiliated with a home for the sick.“Since 1973 it is predominantly cultural, artistic and social institutions working in the main building.
About the piece
HIMHERANDIT/Vanasay Khamphommala
HIMHERANDIT/Vanasay Khamphommala present an award-winning, intimate, multidisciplinary piece in which up to 5 audience members participate in an immersive performance. A collaborative work that simultaneously tells a universal story about death and love. The audience is immersed in an expansive installation and formulates a love letter to all things human. Between ritual, visual art storytelling, a 3d sound installation and a 360° video panorama, experiences of letting go and finding again are shared. With "Songs of grief" Vanasay Khampommala opens a second space, a space of silence, of music, of voice. It is a place of reverberation, of "aftercare" in which ephemeral, ever-changing and participatory soundscapes are created. "My undying love" was awarded the Scenekunstens Priser Award 2021 and was nominated for the Reumert Award and the Aarhus Stage Art Award 2022.
